What a stroke of luck, he was the single best host I've never met before. We debated political systems, he was a font of historical information about Copenhagen, and he literally lead me back and across the city half a dozen times. And he shared his whiskey.
To get to Copenhagen from Hamburg required a train and ferry-- combined. The train rode right onto the ferry. And once there, we went above deck for a 45 minute break of fresh Baltic air. Then back onto the train, and on to Copenhagen.
One of the first things to do was visit the Assistens Cemetery. There, we found HC Andersen, Soren Kierkegaard, and Niels Bohr. I couldn't contain myself when I noticed someone placed die on Dr. Bohr's gravestone. Some kind of cosmic joke, Bohr and Einstein still long in conversation.
Afterward, the brothers Fristrup and I cooked and devoured some Danish specialities: liver and bacon pate, pickled mackerel with onions on dark bread, frikadeller, creamed cabbage, and potatoes.
