After what has felt like the coldest summer of my life-- unusually cold by Munich, San Francisco, or any other standard-- the sun decided to shine just before slinking over the horizon. We needed to get outside and go for a walk... so a few shots from around where I live, the first being my doorstep.
One would be forgiven for thinking these come from a rural redoubt-- but in fact, Munich has its rural right snug up against its urban. The Isar river, flowing about 200 meters from my apartment, goes right by the center of the city. In both directions, North and South, on both sides of the river, are walking and biking paths adding up, by crude estimate, to more kilometers than you could bike in a day. One links up with a bike path to Italy. Yes, Italy. Also flanking the river are meadows, parks, forest. And in the summer, you'll find tens of thousands of people sunbathing, cycling, walking, playing soccer, stand-up paddling, surfing, you name it, along the banks.
Every city deserves such a strong melding of city, nature, and outdoor life.
