Tuesday
LOCATION: Munich
APPEARING: Steffi
Germans, like Koreans, are basically required to include a photo on their job applications. My gut feeling is that this sends the wrong message about what the employer is seeking-- and seems to put unattractive people, people without a good photographer friend, and people without money, at a distinct disadvantage. We already know that being good looking improves one's chance of landing a job as it is, vis-a-vis the interview process. But at least once someone's made it that far, it's quite possible his experience and personality can command a greater share of the attention then his looks.

Lucky for Steffi. But it's an unfair advantage.

Well, we decided that the photo she had on her applications wasn't really up to par. It was muddy, from a strange perspective, and looked a bit like a Stasi employment record shot. These three-- displayed here in unedited form; plenty of work was done to fix lighting, background, and tonality in post-- were the finalists.
