Woke up at the crack of dawn in order to motor a bike 2 hours out of Chiang Mai to Doi Intanon-- the highest point in Thailand. I do think it is funny that the sign denoting the highest point is not even close to being at the actual summit. Welcome to Thailand.
Riding a 100cc bike doesn't require a degree in astrophysics (but, just in case-- I happen to have one of those) but it is not for the faint of heart. It has been 3 years since I was on a motorbike in Thailand. And that time, my dear friend Sam had 3 accidents and ended up receiving some of the best ER room care I have whitnessed in any country. Don't fret over Sam-- he is in India, preparing to attend whatever PhD program he wants come September... and if anything, the accident probably improved his appearance.
At the summit, a group of Thais dressed in yellow (an important color here-- royal color) immediately motioned for us to come over during their impromptu phot session. Sure, one of us will take your picture! Oh wait, that is not what you are asking for... is it? You want what? You want us IN your picture? So that is how it happened that we are posing with 20 some odd Thai tourists; it is almost akin to having your family reunion photo invaded by some iterant tourist. Apparently this happens fairly frequently in Thailand-- they just love farang.
I made it back in one piece, as did Jake, his parents, and Steffi. Only some of these photos are mine-- many were taken by the German, from the back of the bike... in transit. I'm responsible for all post-processing errors and missed judgements.
